DAYTON, OHIO, August 8, 2008 - Today, your Better Business Bureau announced it will begin using modified versions of its BBB Reliability Reports™ on Monday, August 11, featuring a revised business reporting model using three classifications: BBB Accredited, satisfactory and unsatisfactory. Your BBB’s updated reporting model is part of its ongoing commitment to make it easier for consumers to find trustworthy businesses.
BBB serving Dayton and the Miami Valley maintains a database of information on more than 3,300 businesses and is providing these updated reports – online and free of charge – to help consumers more easily and quickly identify and compare businesses based on your BBB’s unbiased evaluation. They are based on objective information and actual incidences of a business’ behavior that have been verified and evaluated by BBB professionals.
"Under our current structure, both BBB Accredited Businesses and non-accredited businesses have been reported as being either ‘satisfactory’ or ‘unsatisfactory.’ In the updated model, BBB Accredited will be a stand-alone status," said John North, BBB president and CEO. "Our reports now offer the best of both worlds by providing consumers with quick reference material for fast comparisons and detailed data based on feedback and research measured against your BBB’s time-tested standards for marketplace conduct."
In October 2007, your BBB changed the way businesses affiliated with the organization were designated, from "BBB Member" to "BBB Accredited Business." The "Accredited" designation highlights the fact a business has been thoroughly reviewed by your BBB, meets the organization’s high standards for integrity and reliability when dealing with consumers and contractually agrees to continue to abide by these standards. These businesses will be easy to identify in BBB Reliability Reports™, which will use an "A" (for Accredited) to indicate their status.
For non-accredited businesses your BBB has sufficient information on, the reports will continue to classify the business as either "satisfactory" or "unsatisfactory." "Satisfactory" status means your BBB has no negative information about the business and customer experience has been generally acceptable. Those businesses are identified with an "S." An "Unsatisfactory" status warns consumers your BBB has uncovered information that warrants caution when considering doing business with this company. Businesses with an unsatisfactory status will be designated by the letter "U."
The combination of BBB Accreditation status and BBB Reliability Reports™ is a valuable resource consumers can start with when they are looking for trustworthy businesses.
